Life at the Legan Pad · Pippy's Journey

Pippy Day 2018

I mentioned in my last post that it’s very important to us to continue celebrating and sharing Pippy’s life. In past years Tim and I have had family photos made, gone to a winery, had massages, or anything that is sort of special and out of the ordinary for us. I want this day to be one full of joy.

The day started early with phone calls and text messages, Facebook messages and flowers from so many of our loved ones remembering her with us. I can’t tell you how much that means to us! Thank you so much! To have others acknowledge her birthday is a huge blessing. If you have a loved one who has lost a child, don’t be afraid to do something special for them. I promise you are not reminding them of anything; they know exactly what day it is. A simple text saying you’re thinking of them can make a huge difference for someone.

This year we made it a special family day. Liam, especially, is getting older and starting to understand things a little better. He’s still only three, so he doesn’t quite get it. He asked if we were going to go in the clouds to see her. But he does understand that he has another sister and she’s in Heaven. We explained that we miss her very much, and we want to do something special to celebrate her birthday.

We decided to take a day trip to Omaha and visit the Henry Doorly Zoo. If you ever get the chance, it’s one of the best zoos we have ever been too. Many of the exhibits are indoors, so it’s a great place to visit any time of year. We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day. The Desert Dome and Creatures of the Night exhibits are among my favorites. The Creatures of the Night take you through caves, swamps, and Australia’s nocturnal creatures. They also have a beautiful aquarium with hands-on activities, which the kids love, and an indoor Jungle complete with rope bridges and hanging vines with birds and even monkeys freely roaming. It’s a pretty incredible zoo.

After several hours at the zoo we headed back into Lincoln to find a special Pippy dessert and fancy coffee. We ended up at Nothing Bundt Cakes, which is always a win in my book, and enjoyed coffee and hot chocolate from Java and Juice. It was nice to sit and enjoy each other and be a little silly. Then we headed home and ordered an original cream cheese and pepperoni pizza from Ramos Pizza. I had never heard of this until moving back to Lincoln, but this pizza is the bomb diggity. Seriously a special occasion pie though because of the rich and creamy cream cheese. So we ended our night with a delectable pizza, family movie night, and our fancy little bundt cakes.

It was a wonderful day and a great way to celebrate and remember our Pippy girl. How we wish she had been with us, but we know her birthday in Heaven was beyond anything we could have provided for her here. A friend of mine worded it beautifully, “May her heavenly birthday be so fantastic it radiates to earth.” I love that idea.
