By now we’ve all heard that this flu season is one of the worst. (Don’t they say that every year?) And, like most years, there is a lot of debate about the flu shot. I’m not going to tell you whether I think you should or should not get a flu shot or that any of the things I’m about to share are 100% effective.
In fact, I don’t believe there is anything that is 100% effective in protecting us from the germs and viruses all around us.
But I will tell you that no one in my home has had the flu in well over 10 years. And even then, the victim was little ‘ol me and I happened to be working in a hospital at the time, so I was definitely exposed more than non-medical personnel.
I will also tell you that each year we look at the pros and cons of the flu shot and each year we opt against it.
So, let’s start with the basics of how we’ve chosen to try to protect our household.
Wash Your Hands, People!
So simple. Use soap and water and scrub for 20 seconds. Easiest thing ever!
Again, so simple. Instead of coughing or sneezing into your hands, pull your arm up and stuff your face into your sleeve. This keeps all of the germs contained instead of spraying out into the atmosphere for the rest of us to breathe and keeps your hands clean.
I have a bottle of Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier everywhere! It’s in my purse, the diaper bag, attached to my lunch bag, on my desk, and many more bottles spread randomly throughout the house. I love that it has the fighting power of Thieves essential oil, so I know we are getting clean without any chemicals. And it smells awesome!
Thieves and Thieves Vitality Essential Oil
This stuff is the bee’s knees! It’s a blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils. I diffuse Thieves in every room to neutralize and purify the air year round. Okay, so it’s not really a miracle, but my husband has dubbed it that. Any time we start to feel any bug coming on, we juice! This simple combo is a punch in the face of vitamin C! We simply juice 4-5 oranges (without peel), about an inch of ginger, and a bunch of celery. This is a great way to give your immune system the jump it needs.
Healthy Diet and Exercise
This is the area we need the most improvement! I don’t think we’re alone in this either, right? Healthcare providers have been telling us (as in all of us) for as long as we can remember that a balanced diet and regular exercise are key to staying healthy. But once we find ourselves in that vicious cycle of fast food and couch time, it’s really hard to get out of it. Well, my family is amping up our game and I’m hoping you will too.
We need to take care of ourselves today, so we can do the things we love tomorrow.
